May 25, 1935Dr. Jonath Johnson University Museum University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Dear Dr. Johnson,

For some time past I have wished to apply to the University Museum for a position on the staff of the Museum's excavations in Cyprus. I do not know whether at the present time there is need for one more man of my qualifications, but, at any rate, I hope that you will be kind enough to give me some information regarding the existing possibilities.

I have received my training in Classical Archaeology almost wholly under Professor W. B. Dinsmoor of Columbia University, and hold from the latter institution the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts. I have majored in Greek Architecture, but have also made special studies in Epigraphy and Greek Prehistory. I have also to my credit for the doctorate half a year's work at Johns Hopkins University, where I studied Egyptian History and Oriental Archaeology with Professor Albright.

I have studied ancient Greek both here and at Smyrna, the place of my birth, and have besides a good command of French, German, and modern Greek.

This, in short, covers my training. But theory with practice is not of much use, and that is why I shall especially welcome any opportunity to get some field experience.

I know that Professor Dinsmoor will be glad to speak for me, as well as other scholars who have been my teachers.

Sincerely
