tombs lasting so much longer than you expected, we ran out of funds on July 28. I coaxed the director of the Ionian Bank to let me take five pounds on the excavation account without a check from you, and I cashed my own check. We finished active digging in Kaloriziki on that day, and payed off Lazaros (at £2-10-0).

Last week (Aug. 4) we were again flat, after I had contributed £2-2-00 of my own (all I have to my name), and I was placed in the rather embarassing position of having to borrow £2-2-6 from Christo. As you can see, the £5 you sent will not do much more than pay back Christo and cover aid in my expenses until I leave (not including Georgios, my going to Nicosia, filling the graves\ (£1, given to Michali?) \, my return-ticket, etc.)
