GEORGE H. McFADDEN 121 CHESTNUT STREET PHILADELPHIA

November 30th,1934.

B. H. Hill, Esq., No. 9 Plutarch Street, Athens, Greece.

Dear Mr. Hill:

I am enclosing you a photo of the SAMOTHRACE which I think is much better than the one I sent you in my letter from Brindisi.

I have been to see Mr. Jayne several times about our expedition, and he seems very interested and thinks that it is very likely that the Museum will be able to support the next expedition and keep the work going for three years. This is not definite but Mr. Jayne is very hopeful.

I am publishing a four hundred word account of our excavation in the University Museum Bulletin, which I will send you as soon as the new issue comes out. I have joined the University here for a full term.

I am planning to sail on the nineteenth of January on the "Conte di Savoia" which goes straight to Naples, and I should arrive in Athens in early February. If you are [handwritten: en route] as soon as I arrive. I should like very much to come down to see you as soon as I arrive.

Do you still feel that the end of February would not be too soon to begin work again at Cyprus? I suppose that we should be there about a week before actually beginning to dig, and then we can begin a full two months campaign. As I am not going to put my boat in commission, I can very easily afford a two months campaign this time, even though the Museum should not be able to contribute anything.

How long do you think we would stay in Cyprus after we let the workmen go?

My Mother is going to Italy probably in May and would like to know if there is any chance of my being free before the end of the month. Of course, I do not want to leave Cyprus before everything is in order.

I have not seen Miss Cox yet but hope to see her the next time I go to New York. Mr. Jayne says she would be very glad to go to Cyprus provided her expenses would be paid and I am sure this can be arranged. Would you want anyone else besides Miss Cox? You may have someone in mind in Athens. I would appreciate it very much if you would let me know about this.
