X/Signed in duplicate by the owner, usually attested by witnesses. One copy filed with the Colonial Secretary, the second retained in our files. A third copy, signed by BHH only, given to the owner. At the end of the season the owner was in most cases paid for filling the trenches on his land, his receipt formally releasing us from the obligation assumed in the final paragraph of the permit.
