End of excavation in H8/1-H8/2
H8/2. Main elements: - massif and staircase 488, of which only the west flight survives; - floor 477
Remarks: - the fallen block, south-east of the square, is "intrusive" - the plaster bed east of the square corresponds to a) the robbing of the east alignment of massif 488 (appar- ently, each massif is made up of three alignments parallel), b) the east flight of staircase 488 (in the baulk H8/2- H8/1, one sees remains of broken marmaro, no doubt debris from the robbing of the staircase) = the whole sector between massif 488 to the west and massif 459 to the east was robbed at the same time, including the partition pillar 476. - the marmaro slab 487 corresponds to a level reached after filling of the "corridor" 477 (cf; yellow line visible in section H8/1-H8/2, east face). It is probably from this level that the filling of the sub- floor was carried out: there would therefore be "two phases" in the filling, the first consisting of filling the corridor up to about the third step (yellow sediment, crushed sandstone), the other being the filling of bricks and stones visible in H8/1 and J8/2.
H8/1. Main elements:
- massif and staircase 490: the east flight is well preserved, the west flight, if it exists, is under the baulk J8/2-H8/1
- floor 477 is not yet exposed in this square.
Remarks: - massif 490 is partially robbed: central alignment to the south, three alignments towards the south. As in the case of 488, the central alignment appears to rest on a filling of stones and earth: there is no continuous construction (a void that would explain the collapse of the central alignment?) - marmaro 492 matches marmaro 487 (in H8/2): both must border the partition wall that exists under the baulk H8/1-H8/2 (cf. marmaros around wall 4502 in J8/1)
