1° and definitively = the massifs do not go back up to the expected place, that is to say exactly in the axis of the centre of wall 452 alas, three times alas!!!

massif 491 continues to descend towards the N

the excavation is made between massif 491 and wall 708.

Miscellaneous notes = - the pavement of marmaro 708/West exists, in place, perhaps torn away to the North. it is at the same approximate altitude as 452/East but 708/East is situated 60 cm lower, at the same altitude as 707/E - - massif 491 is doubled on the East by a wall of bricks, as on the W. this brick wall is removed to follow the massif, but it exists. width: x ± 40 base = ? height = according to the doubling/West, at least up to the level of the pavements of marmaro 452/East and 708/West.

These "doublings" could only serve to hold the packing above the massifs during backfilling - To the West, this wall is abutted against the wall to the East, it is offset by about 5 cm.

Meaning of the massifs ?

Towards the N, the brick walls stop at the alignment of the blocks visible in trench ELG at the N end of wall 452. stack of blocks (1 single course), found in UF 9 these "piers" seem to "support the brick wall on the outside the whole is embedded in the terra fill.

Beyond these blocks + end of the brick walls, towards the N, nothing more ?
